sooty sooty

1990 - 25 September, 2007

The 25th September 2007 is the saddest day for our family as the Matriarch of our family and cat family has passed away after a very full 18 years.

Our dear old Sooty came into our lives back in 1992 when we came across her at the Animal Refuge at Smithfiled, Cairns. All I saw was these huge green eyes and the most fluffiest tail but knew we just had to have her. Sooty was about 15 months old when we got her and was not a healthy cat either as the refuge and her previous owners had always fed her milk, this always gave Soot an upset stomach. We stopped letting her have milk as the vet told us she was lactose intolerant. Well she blossomed after that.

Sooty became lost in 1994, she had hopped on the back of the Truck drivers rig one night and he left with her on there, I rang from Cairns all the way to Ravenshoe & Chillagoe, Queensland hoping that the locals might have seen her and to keep an eye out for her. Knowing in my mind that I would never see her again. Since we had Sooty we registered with the Lost Dog Society and put her tag on her collar, well about a month after Sooty had gone missing I got a phone call from them to say that my black cat had been found. She was at the vets in Cairns. Turned out that Sooty had luckily jumped off the truck about 3 blocks from our house but couldn't find her way home. During this time her leg got caught in the collar and someone found her and took her to the vet. So old Soot had used 1 life up.

A year later we moved down to Dalby, in Western Queensland and Sooty, Inky and Tessa stayed with my parents until we were settled then they flew them down to Brisbane. Nothing fazed Sooty at all she hopped out of her cage just happy to see us and wanting food as usual. We nearly lost Sooty in Dalby as she had eaten a mouse that had been baited but we were lucky to have found her in time. Life number 2 up.

Sooty had the neighbourhood dogs always on the run as she never backed down from them, when we went walking around the street, Sooty would come as well. She even had all the cats in our household knowing she was QUEEN SOOTY. No one messed with her. Even though we started breeding the Birmans old Soot knew she was still the Queen of the house and made all the cats know it.

We moved to Maryborough and Hervey Bay still Sooty wasn't fazed, she had a great habit of letting the neighbours know who she was and to make sure they fed her as well. She was loved by all. This old girl was never sick she was tough as anything, but was our most treasured girl. She has been so much a part of our lives that no cat will ever replace her she was so loyal all we would have to do was whistle and she was there. She would greet all our visitors with a good chat and wouldn't leave them alone until she got enough pats and praise of how gorgeous she was.

Unfortunately some unkind person decided to run over Sooty and broke her leg sometime on the 24th September 07 without letting us know and when we found Sooty late that night she let us know her leg was sore but was walking around, but poor old Soot didn't complain that it was really really sore, I couldn't get into the vet until 3pm the next afternoon, but in my heart I knew this was to be her last trip. The vet was amazed how tough she was and couldn't imagine how much pain she was in but she was purring non stop happy that people were taking notice of her. So after a very lengthy hard decision it was decided to put this poor Old Sooty girl to rest and have no pain.

Our Heart aches for you Sooty, you have filled us with happy memories, you were a very special part of our lives. The love you gave us will never be forgotten your purr's and chats that you shared with us. RIP our darling girl Sooty. May Angels walk with you today and always.

A Million Tears...

I have cried a million tears and would cry a million more,
if I knew that it would bring you back to the place you were before.
Oh how much I miss you since you've gone away, if only I had had more time even one more day.
When I lost you I lost a piece of me, I was dying inside.
It was so hard to let go, but I knew I had to try,
I would hold you in my arms and kiss your soft sweet fur, and tell you that I love you as I listen to your purr.
Where was the hope when all was lost?
I didn't know how I would cope,
When I lost you that day,
I couldn't understand why you were taken away from me.
But I knew I had to say goodbye.
We will always miss you Sooty and wish you were still here, but know that in our hearts you always will be near.

Tess was the most regal girl - she always held her head high to say 'look at me'. She was the most fantastic mum of all and would help all the girls with their kittens. Tessy is greatly missed by all our family.

Jardy was definitely the biggest gentleman you could ask for.  He loved his girls and never said or did a cross thing to anyone or any cat.  He could talk his head off and would chat all night and day. Jardy is dearly missed.
